In 2022, the Harrisburg RDA collaborated with Houston Parks and Recreation Department and community residents to complete a master plan for Eastwood Park. Implementation of the master plan, completed by Clark Condon Associates, is proposed to take place over two phases.
Eastwood Park Phase I improvements include a number of upgrades requested by the community. The park will receive a new and expanded play area, a new skate park, and enhancements to the basketball courts. The baseball field will be replaced with an open space sufficient for a variety of sporting and community activities that will be surrounded and crossed with a series of new walking paths. Seating and shade structures will be located near activity areas. The park will also receive lighting, landscaping and drainage improvements.
HPARD comments on the 60% design submission have been received and are being incorporated. Work has begun in preparation for submission of 90% design plans. Design is expected to be complete in 2026 with construction finishing by the end of 2027.
Future Phase II Improvements will include a new, better equipped community center, community-focused outdoor gathering space, a new swimming pool and an expanded parking area. The existing community center is proposed to be integrated into the new swimming pool. City of Houston has placed replacement of the swimming pool on the five-year Capital Improvement Program.
