Harrisburg RDA is proposing full reconstruction of the Telephone Road corridor from Lawndale to Lockwood for purposes of improving traffic safety and conditions for all users, including vehicular traffic, METRO service, cyclists, and pedestrians. The improved design improves safety by reconfiguring the corridor appropriate to the number of vehicles that use the roadway and improving the space for pedestrian and cyclist travelers. To the extent possible the design is intended to mirror improvements proposed for Telephone Road from Lawndale to IH-610 by the City of Houston as a result of a RAISE grant (through the US Department of Transportation).

Comments on the 60% plan have been received from the City and METRO and are being incorporated. Design is currently anticipated to be complete in 2026 and construction to be complete in late 2027.

Full reconstruction of the corridor is made possible by a $2.5M contribution by District I under the leadership of Council Member Joaquin Martinez and prior Council Member Robert Gallegos.
